Selection of Humidifiers Humidification refers to the process of forcibly evaporating moisture into the air, which requires heat known as latent heat for evaporation. There are various methods of humidification as mentioned above, but it is necessary to choose based on the usage location, and making the wrong choice can jeopardize the entire system. This is particularly important in constant temperature and humidity rooms, where decisions must be made based on temperature and humidity conditions, controllability, cost, and indoor cleanliness. One point to be cautious about with water humidification is that it is often thought to require little to no heat source and to have low running costs. However, to evaporate water, heat (latent heat) must be drawn from the air, necessitating significant heating of the air. If electric heaters are used for heating, the running costs will be almost the same as those of steam humidification. Additionally, temperature control becomes difficult as it is influenced by the operation of the humidifier. Without water treatment, minerals and bacteria contained in the water can be released into the air, potentially contaminating the indoor environment. Therefore, when humidifying in conditions with a very high thermal load, such as in constant temperature and high humidity rooms, it seems wise to choose steam humidifiers.
