The "polynomial Pitot tube" or "Barflow tube" is not a throttling structure like an orifice or venturi, allowing for very low permanent pressure loss. It is equipped with multiple total pressure measurement ports and static pressure measurement ports, enabling the measurement of the average flow velocity in the piping and detecting stable flow rates. To prevent clogging of the measurement ports, which is the biggest weakness of Pitot tubes, the Pitot tube sensor is continuously purged during measurement.

The biggest weakness of the Pitot tube flow meter, which is the clogging of the measurement orifice, is resolved by the purge system. To enable average flow measurement within the piping, multiple measurement orifices are provided, and purge air is continuously supplied to the Pitot tube flow meter during measurement, allowing for measurements to be taken without being affected by clogging or corrosion from dust, mist, or particulates.
