Reducing the labor burden on elderly silver workers through cardboard conversion. No need for nails or bolts, and with lightweight packaging, anyone, including women, can handle the packing! Towards a company that is friendly to workers.
This is an improvement case from a company that was relying on elderly silver workers for packaging tasks. Currently, silver workers were assembling wooden pallets (wooden geta) using purchased lumber. We received feedback that: - Securing personnel is difficult. - Considering environmental impact, we would like to avoid using wood as much as possible. Based on this, we began the design process. [Reasons for not transitioning to cardboard] It seems that there had been a top-down goal to eliminate the use of wood for some time, but they had not progressed to an all-cardboard solution. - Currently, products were fixed to the wooden geta with bolts. Since cardboard cannot be secured with bolts, they were hesitant to make the switch. - They could not find a cardboard manufacturer that could meet these requirements. [Improvements made] - No need for nails or bolts. - Lightweight packaging. - Elimination of label application (printing directly on the packaging). ↓ ↓ - Anyone can package the products. - Simplified disposal for end-users (from industrial waste to recycled paper). - Reduction in air freight costs.
