The implementing municipalities are prefectures and cities! This is funding that can be used for forest management and general wood utilization.
The Forest Environment Transfer Tax is a financial resource for forest management by municipalities, which has been allocated since the fiscal year 2019 based on objective criteria such as private forest area, number of forestry workers, and population, distributed to municipalities and prefectures. Currently, it is paid from the national treasury, but starting from the fiscal year 2024, it will be taxed as a national tax using the framework of the individual resident tax uniform portion, with an annual charge of 1,000 yen per person, which will become the financial resource. Municipalities and stakeholders considering timber-related projects who are struggling with budget securing are encouraged to consider utilizing the Forest Environment Transfer Tax. 【Budget Scale】 <Example for Fiscal Year 2021> ■ Yokohama City: 305.21 million yen ■ Hamamatsu City: 258.96 million yen ■ Osaka Prefecture: 236.22 million yen, etc. *Due to the population ratio method, there is a tendency for budgets to be biased towards urban areas, and it is currently under review. *For more details, please feel free to contact us.
