Upset butt welding is a type of resistance welding where the metal end faces are brought together and welded. Two components (with the same cross-sectional shape) are set up so that their end faces are in close contact with the electrodes. By applying pressure and passing low voltage and high current, heat is generated between the end faces due to electrical resistance, resulting in welding.
