The heartwood contains a high amount of oils (essential oil components), which not only make the wood resistant to decay but also provide strong protection against various pests (such as cockroaches, termites, and mites), enhancing the wood's durability. With wide growth rings, it is light and soft, making it less likely to splinter and cause skin irritation. When finished with a smooth surface treatment, it greatly improves the tactile feel.
