What? ~WaAT~: Austempering can now be applied to areas that were previously excluded!
"Uniform structure even in thicker products" - In order to achieve a uniform bainitic structure throughout the core of the steel material required for austempering, it is generally necessary to apply steel grades with excellent H values or to limit the weight and thickness of the steel components, which has restricted their adoption in design requirements. In response, our company, WaAT, has successfully developed a mechanism for automatically controlling the addition of water to the nitrate bath, establishing its incorporation into actual machines. As a result, we were able to significantly increase the cooling rate during rapid cooling, eliminating the need to change the steel grade and allowing for an expansion of the weight and thickness usage range while remaining within the medium to high carbon steel category.

Detailed information
-

By adding water to the basic cooling ability of the salt bath agent, it has become possible to accelerate the cooling rate. We have successfully implemented this technology into the actual device.
-

In our evaluation using test specimens, we have successfully achieved the specified hardness up to approximately twice the thickness compared to salt bath agents without added water.
-

Products with a low holding temperature for salt bath agents achieve greater effects.
-

In our test specimens, the uniform cooling effect has been shown to improve the variation in distortion.
-

Uniform cooling capacity and moisture content management are established based on analysis using fluid simulation.
