When thinking about logistics and delivery, people generally envision trucks, but the U.S. freight rail system accounts for about 16% of total freight volume on a weight basis. Rail freight is an environmentally friendly transportation alternative to truck transport, capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75%. It is estimated that by 2035, the volume of rail freight will increase by 22%.
