DecaBDE has been used as a flame retardant in electrical and electronic equipment, food packaging, plastic products, and automobiles, while UV-328 has been used as a UV absorber in automobiles, plastic products, and food packaging. These substances were added to Annex A (elimination) of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in 2023. In Japan, starting from February 18, 2025, they will be designated as Type 1 Specific Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, leading to measures such as a ban on the import of government-designated products (effective June 18, 2025) and a ban on use outside of government-designated applications (essential uses) (effective February 18, 2025).
