Rare earth elements (REE) are sold as metal ingots, metal powders, rare earth oxides (REO), alloys, or salts after being mined and separated from deposits and refined. The purity of rare earth oxides (REO) is usually over 97%, while the purity of ingots and powders is at least 99%. The mass fraction of rare earth elements in these products is an important quality indicator and a crucial factor that influences price and applications. Generally, high-purity rare earth elements are dissolved in acid, and their purity is measured by various analytical methods. One particularly important method is the titration method using xylenol orange as an indicator (ISO 23597). The titration method is an absolute measurement method and has many advantages compared to other established analytical techniques such as atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS).
