[Analysis Case] Evaluation of Melting Temperature and Latent Heat of Thermal Storage Materials (DSC)
In DSC measurement, in addition to evaluating the performance of phase change materials, it is also possible to assess the physical properties of inorganic and organic substances, such as melting and crystallization.
Phase change materials are used for temperature-controlled delivery of fresh food as an alternative to ice and dry ice, and due to their reusability and ability to maintain desired temperature ranges, their applications are expanding beyond the food sector to include the transportation of pharmaceuticals and frozen goods. Phase change materials control temperature by utilizing the latent heat of fusion associated with the phase change from solid to liquid, making the melting temperature and latent heat capacity important evaluation criteria. This document presents examples of two types of phase change materials, evaluated for melting temperature and latent heat capacity through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC measurements).
