CoaXPress-over-Fiber unravels the technology of the next generation machine vision interface.
CoaXPress (CXP) is the de facto standard for high-bandwidth computer vision applications. The maximum speed of CoaXPress is CXP-12, achieving 12.5 Gbps (gigabits per second) over coaxial copper cables. Link aggregation is commonly applied in CoaXPress, and using four CXP-12 links makes it easy to achieve a bandwidth of 50 Gbps (12.5 x 4). CoaXPress-over-Fiber was initially designed as an add-on to the CoaXPress specification. It provides a means to run the CoaXPress protocol unchanged over standard Ethernet connections that include optical fiber. Euresys began the development and demonstration of CoaXPress-over-Fiber in 2018. The specifications for CoaXPress-over-Fiber were approved in 2021 as an add-on to the CoaXPress standard and are managed by JIIA (Japan Industrial Imaging Association). I will explain the technology of this next-generation interface.
