**Lecture Overview** Amid the widespread adoption of generative AI, the rapid expansion of data center demand, and the increased implementation of EVs and renewable energy, there is growing attention on next-generation power semiconductors that achieve high efficiency in power (electric energy) conversion. Silicon (Si) semiconductors have been widely used for power devices that perform power conversion and control efficiently. However, in response to the demands for further performance enhancement, miniaturization, and efficiency of power conversion devices (power electronics), the application of next-generation power semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) has begun in recent years, and there are strong expectations for the expansion of their application range. This lecture will explain the latest research and development status and future prospects of next-generation power semiconductors (SiC, GaN, Ga oxide, diamond, etc.), as well as the challenges for social implementation.
