The New-FM series from Nichiko Electric is a fully electromagnetic circuit breaker that uses an electromagnetic coil and a cylinder (dashpot) filled with silicone oil.
Since it does not have a thermal element like a bimetal that does not change its operating characteristics with ambient temperature, the trip current is not affected by the internal temperature of the panel or the outside air temperature (temperature difference), allowing for stable continuous current flow up to 100% of the rated value. Immediate re-energization after tripping is possible; after an overload trip, there is no need to wait for the bimetal to cool down. If the cause is removed, the handle can be reset immediately to restore power (reducing recovery time). Both overcurrent and short circuit are protected with high precision; for mild overcurrent, a delay due to the viscosity resistance of the oil is applied (time delay operation), while for large short circuit currents, the armature is immediately attracted without waiting for the core to retract in the oil, resulting in instantaneous disconnection.
