basic information
**Lecture Overview** The expansion of data center (DC) investments has led to a rapid increase in domestic electricity demand, raising the likelihood of significant impacts on the power grid. On the other hand, there are cases where discrepancies arise between the contracted power at the time of grid interconnection application and the actual demand after operations begin, raising concerns about over-investment in the grid, cost burdens on general consumers, and even supply shortages. In response to these challenges, discussions including institutional aspects are progressing in national councils, and abroad, the impact of power demand fluctuations specific to AI-oriented DCs on power quality is also a concern. This lecture will introduce the current situation and challenges surrounding DC grid interconnections, as well as initiatives by Tokyo Electric Power Grid and efforts both domestically and internationally. Additionally, it will explain the outline of the Watt-Bit Collaboration Public-Private Council and initiatives aimed at simultaneously achieving DX (Digital Transformation) and GX (Green Transformation). **Lecture Items** ■ The impact of data center demand ■ Power grid challenges and their impacts due to the interconnection of a large number of data centers ■ Current deliberation status in national councils, etc. ■ Initiatives by Tokyo Electric Power Grid ■ Challenges and initiatives faced by overseas transmission and distribution operators ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card exchange and networking event (limited to on-site participants)
