Even for the same φ3mm hole, if the depth, material, and tolerances differ, the machines, tools, and number of processes used will change. The accuracy of the estimate is determined by how well the conditions are communicated at the outset. ■ Seven Items to Convey in an Estimate Request 1. Material: Please specify using material codes like SUS304 rather than general classifications like "stainless steel." Information about heat treatment and the relationship with drilling is also necessary. 2. Hole Diameter: Clearly indicate whether it is the finished dimension or a pre-drilled hole before processes like honing. 3. Depth: Indicate whether it is a through hole or a blind hole. The difficulty of machining is assessed using the L/D ratio (depth ÷ hole diameter). 4. Tolerance: In addition to the tolerance for the hole diameter, if there are geometric tolerances such as straightness or concentricity, please provide those values and their references. 5. Surface Roughness: Indications of Ra or Rz on the inner surface of the hole will help determine if a finishing process is necessary. 6. Quantity: In addition to the number of prototypes, please provide the expected quantity for mass production (monthly production, lot size). 7.
