This leads to the emergence of characteristics not present in bulk silicon, or the enhancement or loss of inherent properties. In this book, after an overview of the application potential of nano-silicon in the introduction, Chapter 1 covers photonics, Chapter 2 covers electronics, Chapter 3 covers acoustics, Chapter 4 covers bio-applications, and Chapter 5 discusses the fundamental process technologies underlying these areas, with contributions from leading researchers in the field. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the authors. Silicon, the core material for devices, will become increasingly important in fields such as ultra-LSI, optical applications, MEMS, and biotechnology.
