Thorough explanation of practical points necessary for commercialization, from technology and equipment to financial planning.
The global shrimp market is thriving, and shrimp that were primarily produced in Southeast Asia and South Asia were mainly distributed vertically within Asia to countries like Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. However, while Japan has experienced a long-term recession since the late 1990s, the import volume of frozen shrimp in the United States, where economic prosperity and seafood consumption have become widespread, surpassed Japan's in 1997, increasing from 190,000 tons in 1988 to 700,000 tons today. The initiative has completely fallen behind the large consumer markets of the United States and China.
In recent years, there has been a surge in domestic ventures for farming Pacific white shrimp to improve the current situation where the domestic self-sufficiency rate of this important shrimp species in the domestic food industry is less than 10% of consumption. However, most of these ventures are small-scale experimental plants, with only about three production plants at the 100-ton scale nationwide. As a result, there has been no fundamental learning in Pacific white shrimp farming, and numerous cases of failure can be observed.
