Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) is defined as exhibiting resistance to three classes of drugs: aminoglycosides, carbapenems, and fluoroquinolones, and it is classified as a Category 5 infectious disease, requiring notification. Notification is necessary when the infection is suspected and detected from normally sterile materials (such as cerebrospinal fluid or pleural fluid), or when it is isolated from sputum, pus, etc., and determined to be the causative bacterium of an infection, or in cases where a death has been recognized. Infections caused by this bacterium can be difficult to treat. Strict measures for preventing hospital-acquired infections must also be implemented. Therefore, the demand for MDRA screening media is considered high. "Chromagar MDRA Screening Medium" is an enzyme substrate medium that allows for simple and selective screening by enabling MDRA to form characteristic "red" colonies. Other microorganisms are either inhibited from growing or form colonies of different colors, making differentiation easy.
