Electroless nickel plating

The film has uniformity and can be processed into complex shapes.

Electroless nickel plating is a process that deposits a nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) coating through chemical reduction without the use of electricity. A significant feature is the ability to uniformly control the thickness of the plating. The method involves applying the plating by utilizing a chemical reduction reaction in the plating solution without passing current. In the plating solution used for electroless nickel plating, sodium hypophosphite is employed as a reducing agent, which results in the deposited coating containing phosphorus. Therefore, electroless nickel plating possesses various characteristics that differ from those of conventional nickel plating.

Nickel plating

Plating treatment with luster, corrosion resistance, and hardness.

Nickel plating is a process that deposits a nickel metal coating through electrical current. Nickel is one of the rare transition metals and possesses properties that make it resistant to rust. Its characteristics are similar to those of iron, but it is more stable against moisture in the air than iron, which is why it is used for both decorative and anti-corrosive purposes. However, the surface can slightly discolor in the air, so it is common to apply decorative chrome plating in addition to nickel plating for aesthetic enhancement and maintenance. Features: 1. Glossy finish 2. Leveling effect that can smooth the surface 3. High hardness 4. Resistant to discoloration 5. High corrosion resistance

Decorative chrome plating

Plating process for cases requiring luster and aesthetic appeal, as well as high corrosion resistance.

Chrome plating refers to the process of depositing chromium metal onto an object. Chromium metal combines with oxygen in the atmosphere to form a transparent and extremely thin passive film on the surface, which provides corrosion resistance, luster, and hardness. Chrome plating can be broadly categorized into two types: "decorative chrome plating (nickel chrome plating)" and "hard chrome plating" (also known as hard chrome plating). Although both are referred to as chrome plating, they are distinguished by the thickness of the film. However, when people generally refer to chrome plating, they often mean "decorative chrome plating."

Hard chrome plating

It is possible to create a film with a thickness of 1 to 500 µm.

Hard chrome plating is a type of chrome plating that refers to chrome metal that has been plated to a thickness of 1μm or more. It is also referred to as hard chrome plating, but both terms have the same meaning. The coating of hard chrome plating can be processed to a thick layer, which provides excellent hardness, wear resistance, sliding properties, and release properties. It is used in industrial products such as machine parts and molds.

Zinc plating

Inexpensive zinc plating (chromate treatment) that can provide corrosion resistance.

Zinc plating is an indispensable presence when it comes to plating. The zinc coating is a bluish-silver metal that has a glossy appearance and exhibits paramagnetism, and the choice of zinc plating suitable for the material can affect its corrosion resistance. Zinc plating can be achieved through two methods: one is to deposit zinc metal using electric power, and the other is to immerse the material in molten zinc, both of which provide a plating treatment that imparts high corrosion resistance. Zinc plating has a high rust prevention effect and is mainly applied to iron products, as an inert film is formed on the zinc plating. Since zinc has a greater tendency to ionize than iron, even if there are pinholes in the plating film, zinc acts sacrificially to prevent rust on the base material, achieving a high level of corrosion protection. This is known as sacrificial protection.

Copper plating

Plating treatment that utilizes thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and ductility.

Characteristics of Copper Plating - Good electrical conductivity Copper plating, which uses copper, achieves high electrical conductivity similar to that of copper itself (resistivity ρ×10^-8(Ω·m) 1.6 to 2.3, conductivity (%IACS) 75.0 to 107.8). Leveraging its excellent electrical conductivity, it is particularly active in the field of electrical equipment. - High thermal conductivity In addition to electrical conductivity, copper also excels in thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of copper is 0.94 [W/m·℃, allowing heat to be distributed quickly and evenly throughout the material. - Ideal as a base plating Copper plating is also valued as a base plating. For example, when it is necessary to plate materials that are difficult to plate directly, applying copper plating first as a base can improve adhesion to the material. Additionally, it provides uniformity, making it useful for the purpose of smoothing the surface of the substrate. - Polishing possible after plating Copper plating can also be buff polished after plating. By performing buff polishing as a finishing touch, it is possible to achieve a higher gloss. Buff polishing also expands the variety of decorative options.

Black dye plating (treatment)

Black treatment to prevent iron from rusting.

Black dye plating (treatment) is one of the chemical treatments that involves causing a chemical change (chemical reaction) on the surface of iron through alkaline processing to dye it black, creating an oxidized film of ferric oxide, commonly known as black rust, on the surface. Black dye plating (treatment) is often used for parts where dimensional accuracy needs to be maintained or where cost reduction is desired. It not only protects the surface of metal materials but is also used for decorative purposes and to enhance light absorption properties.
