It is possible to create a film with a thickness of 1 to 500 µm.
Hard chrome plating is a type of chrome plating that refers to chrome metal that has been plated to a thickness of 1μm or more. It is also referred to as hard chrome plating, but both terms have the same meaning. The coating of hard chrome plating can be processed to a thick layer, which provides excellent hardness, wear resistance, sliding properties, and release properties. It is used in industrial products such as machine parts and molds.

basic information
【High Hardness】: This treatment can produce the hardest coating among electroplating processes. The hardness is HV800 to 1000 with a film thickness of 25μm or more, and according to JIS (H8615), the Vickers hardness for 20μm is Hv750 or higher. 【Corrosion Resistance】: By instantly forming an oxide film on the chromium surface, it has a noble potential compared to copper and exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. It is stable against chemical agents other than chlorides, and a coating with a thickness of more than 10μm shows relatively good corrosion resistance even in the atmosphere. Additionally, applying a base plating can further enhance corrosion resistance. 【Wear Resistance】: The high hardness of the coating and low friction coefficient contribute to excellent wear resistance. When plating sliding surfaces for wear resistance, one should be cautious of the galling phenomenon. When two hard chrome platings slide against each other, it may seem that wear is minimal due to both having hard coatings; however, in reality, galling can occur, leading to rapid wear of both surfaces, so caution is necessary. Materials such as gunmetal and brass, which are prone to galling and wear against chrome coatings, are also included in this category.
