What is Maika?

Mica, also known as muscovite, is a natural mineral characterized by its ability to peel off in thin layers.

This is a natural mineral with a mysterious property that allows it to be easily peeled into thin sheets due to its structure, which connects a sheet-like skeletal layer formed by chemically strong covalent bonds with K ion layers through relatively weak ionic bonds. We will introduce examples where the results of many years of fundamental research have led to improvements in quality characteristics.

At the request of our customers, we received an inquiry about whether we could improve the electrical insulation performance of mica tape by more than 20% compared to conventional products in order to increase product output. The mica tape that constitutes the electrical insulation layer is made from mica foil, glass cloth, and adhesive. To meet this request, we attempted an approach by optimizing the mica paper. As a result, we discovered that the conventional mica paper has weaknesses that negatively affect insulation performance, and by eliminating these weaknesses, we were able to overcome the challenges.
