Press Processing Problem Solving Case: Shearing Process

Introduction of a case study on the technology for creating slits with a width of 0.18mm in a plate thickness of 0.3mm.

Shear processing is widely used in press working, but it can pose various challenges depending on processing conditions, such as issues with burr management and shear surface accuracy, scrap handling, curvature of products requiring flatness, twisting or bending of narrow cutouts, and insufficient tool durability. At Yamazaki Industrial Co., Ltd., we are continuously developing individual countermeasures for each of these issues and promoting widespread standardization among our engineers. Our products include copper strips for lead frames (equivalent to CDA15100) with a thickness of 0.3mm, which are shear processed with slits measuring 0.18mm, representing 60% of the sheet thickness. The material hardness is approximately 140Hv. Typically, punches as thin as 0.18mm cannot ensure sufficient strength, and considering mass production, it becomes necessary to widen the slit width. At Yamazaki Industrial Co., Ltd., we enhance mold precision and reconsider the structure of the relevant parts, enabling shear processing of slits and holes that are finer and thinner than the sheet thickness. What is the difference between precision shearing processing and fine blanking (FB processing)?

A clear explanation of the differences in precision and finish based on processing methods!

Fine blanking (FB processing) is a press processing technology that performs blanking (punching) with precision. This principle is based on the "hydrostatic effect," which states that applying pressure to metal increases the force of plastic deformation. In general press processing, the workpiece is placed on the die, and pressure is applied with a punch to perform the blanking; during this process, an appropriate gap (clearance) between the die and the punch is necessary. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Precision cutting processing

We aim for 100% shear processing of gears, cam grooves, inner and outer peripheries, etc.

Precision shearing processing is a product aimed at achieving 100% shearing of gears, cam grooves, inner and outer peripheries, etc. Shearing refers to cutting by using tools like scissors. In engineering, it refers to the application of force in a direction parallel to a surface on any plane within an object. When cutting an object with scissors, the two blades slide past each other, and the object being cut is destroyed by the shear force. In sheet metal processing, the punching of sheets is referred to as shearing processing. For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

High surface roughness full shear processing 'SFP method'

We achieve cost reduction and shorter lead times through the punching of thick plates.

The SFP method is a high surface roughness all-shear processing achieved with overwhelming mold technology and mold precision, such as "stress dispersion" and "LAP technology," using general press machines. It proposes a new possibility for pressing in thick plate punching. By changing rough processing before quenching and tempering to press punching, significant lead time reduction can be expected. The SFP method allows for drilling 8φ holes in 12mm plates. The high surface roughness all-shear processing of the SFP method is very effective for products that require securing mating surfaces and adhesion between products, such as locks, ratchets, gears, and cams. 【Features】 ○ Achieves thick plate punching with low pressure ○ Realizes all-shear and high surface roughness ○ Minimizes press draw ○ Ultra-high precision pressing ○ Plate forging through material flow For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

What is precision shearing processing? Introducing processing methods to achieve precision shearing processing.

I will explain the differences between "shearing processing" and "precision shearing processing" in an easy-to-understand manner.

In press processing, shearing is a method used for cutting metal sheets. There are various types of shearing processes, such as drilling, punching, and notching, but it can be said that press processing is composed of combinations of "shearing processes." Shearing is a method of cutting by applying pressure to a metal sheet using a pair of upper and lower molds. It may be easier to understand if you imagine replacing the principle of "cutting paper with scissors" or "making holes with a punch" with a metal sheet. *For more detailed information, you can view the related links. Presentation of Case Studies: Introduction to Precision Shearing Press through Shaving Processing

It is possible to produce press parts that suppress deformation and secure a shear surface close to that of FB. We can also suggest shapes that are usually difficult to process but can be achieved with pressing!

Using the "precision shearing processing technology" that we have cultivated over many years, we can suppress "dulling" while ensuring a clean shear surface. This technology allows us to achieve shear surfaces comparable to fine blanking using general-purpose press machines. We can accommodate precision shearing processing with both progressive and single-stroke presses. We will propose a mold method tailored to your quantity lot. Precision shearing processing is a challenging technology to maintain in good production condition, but we are committed to thorough product checks during production and mold maintenance to ensure quality control. 【Features】 ■ Suppresses dulling while ensuring a clean shear surface. ■ We propose shapes that are usually difficult to process but can be achieved with pressing. ■ Trust us with precision shearing processing for material thicknesses up to 6mm. *For more details, please download our catalog or case studies, or feel free to contact us.
