【Application Example】 Ultra-high purity NaI(Tl) scintillator

Establishment and practical application of ultra-high purity NaI(Tl) crystal purification technology! A case study of dark matter exploration in astrophysics research at Tokushima University.

We would like to introduce our "ultra-pure NaI(Tl) scintillator," developed in collaboration with Tokushima University for the purpose of dark matter exploration. We began research on purification using ion exchange resin methods in 2012, and by 2014, we successfully developed ultra-high purity NaI(Tl) crystals at a world-class level. Since 2019, we have started research on a hybrid method that combines recrystallization and ion exchange resin methods, achieving K-free levels below 20 ppb. 【Features of the Ultra-Pure NaI(Tl) Scintillator】 ■ Participated in the PICOLON project from 2011, accumulating crystal manufacturing know-how ■ Achieved world-class ultra-purification with radioactive impurities such as U and Th at the level of 10 µBq/kg ■ Contributed to cutting-edge research in astrophysics (numerous papers published using this detector) *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
