Musashi Oil Seal Industry O-Ring Defect Cases

This is a ring designed to seal liquids and gases in reciprocating movements or fixed parts.

An O-ring is a synthetic rubber ring designed to seal liquids and gases in reciprocating motion or fixed parts. It is generally installed in a groove and exhibits sealing functionality through the stress generated by moderate compression. 【Failure Examples】 ■ Twisting ■ Galling ■ Flattening ■ Overall Wear ■ Extraction ■ Swelling ■ Hardening ■ Ozone Cracking ■ Overflow For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

O-ring Fluoro Up S (low adhesion + low friction + low sticking + low outgassing)

Fluoroelastomer (FKM) material with low adhesion, low friction, low sticking, and low outgassing properties due to the O-ring cherry seal.

This material is made of fluororubber (type 2) that reduces phenomena such as stickiness (tackiness), adhesion, and gas release, which are characteristics of rubber materials. It has performance levels for heat resistance and chemical resistance comparable to general-purpose FKM. Sakura Seal Co., Ltd. offers a wide range of O-rings, from very small O-rings to large diameter rings, in various sizes and specifications according to JIS standards, and supports the appropriate selection of O-rings in terms of both material and size. * The fluororubber series, including the Fluoro-Up series, is the material that Sakura Seal Co., Ltd. specializes in the most. * We also accommodate shapes other than O-rings.

O-ring Fluoro Up V (Low Adhesion + Low Friction + High Vacuum Resistance)

Low adhesion and low outgassing fluororubber (FKM) material with O-ring cherry seal.

This material is a type of fluororubber (type 3) that has been designed to reduce phenomena such as the stickiness and adhesion characteristic of rubber materials, as well as gas release, to a certain extent while providing high vacuum resistance. It also possesses excellent heat resistance and chemical resistance, including resistance to strong acids and steam. Sakura Seal Co., Ltd. offers a wide range of O-rings, from very small O-rings to large diameter rings, in various sizes beyond the standard sizes specified by JIS standards, and we support the appropriate selection of O-rings in terms of both material and size. * Various types of fluororubber, including the Fluoro-Up series, are the materials that Sakura Seal Co., Ltd. specializes in the most. * We also accommodate shapes other than O-rings.

O-ring "Material Properties and Applications"

[Sample available] This explains the material properties and applications of O-rings made from natural rubber and synthetic natural rubber.

The resistances in the table are primarily characteristics due to the polymer and may vary depending on the formulation. Please confirm through actual machine tests before use. 【Types of Rubber and Their Characteristics】 ■ Natural Rubber: Has elasticity and good mechanical properties such as abrasion resistance. ■ Synthetic Natural Rubber: Almost the same properties as natural rubber. ■ Styrene Rubber: Good abrasion resistance and aging resistance, and is inexpensive. ■ Butadiene Rubber: Has good elasticity and excellent abrasion resistance. ■ Chloroprene Rubber: Has average properties such as weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, and chemical resistance. ■ Butyl Rubber: Has good weather resistance, ozone resistance, and gas permeability, and is resistant to polar solvents. *Samples are available upon request. If you would like a sample, please apply through [Contact Us]. *Product documentation can be viewed from [Download].

O-ring "Groove Design"

Explaining the use of Tsubushi Shiro, gaps, and backup rings is possible with sample provision.

■Tsubushi Shiro When using O-rings for motion, Tsubushi Shiro significantly affects sealing effectiveness, dynamic resistance, and compression set, so it must be kept to a minimum. In cases of high speed or poor lubrication conditions, please make Tsubushi Shiro even smaller than standard motion O-rings. ■Gap At high pressure, gaps between the piston and cylinder, as well as between the rod and sleeve, can cause extrusion, leading to damage. This gap should be designed to be as small as possible. The use of backup rings is effective in preventing extrusion. ■Use of Backup Rings When pressure is applied from both sides, install backup rings on both sides of the O-ring. When pressure is applied from one direction, install one backup ring on the side opposite the pressure. If there is enough space, it is recommended to use two backup rings even for unidirectional pressure. *Samples are available upon request. If you would like a sample, please apply through the [Contact Us] section. *Product documentation can be viewed from the [Download] section.

[Explanation] Examples of O-ring malfunctions and their countermeasures

Possible sample provided: Explaining examples of O-ring defects and their countermeasures.

Name: We will introduce examples in the order of phenomenon, cause, and countermeasure. ■ Swelling: The rubber becomes soft, and the O-ring increases in size overall. The fluid used penetrates the rubber material → Change to a suitable rubber material. ■ Extraction: The rubber becomes hard, and the O-ring decreases in size overall. The plasticizer contained in the rubber material is extracted by the fluid used → Change to a suitable rubber material. ■ Permanent deformation: The O-ring is crushed and does not return to its original shape. The operating temperature is too high / The crush depth is too large → Change to a rubber material with good heat resistance / Review the groove dimensions or O-ring dimensions. ■ Overhang: The O-ring is torn either completely around or partially. It overhangs the gap between the groove and the mating surface and tears at the edge of the groove → Reduce the gap with the groove / Use a high-hardness O-ring or combine with a backup ring, etc. * Samples are available upon request. If you would like a sample, please apply through [Contact Us]. * Product documentation can be viewed from [Download].

Reverse engineering the handle of a worn-out saw from the actual item.

Through trial and error, we have achieved the ability to produce it exactly as it is with a special processing method!

We received a request from a customer in Hokkaido to custom-make a saw handle that has worn out from years of use. The gray handle on the left side of the image is the actual item with a surface coating applied. The worn and missing parts have been filled with putty and newly manufactured to compensate. *For more details, you can view the related links. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
