Thermal Fluid Analysis Software PHOENICS

PHOENICS: A fluid analysis software that anyone can buy and use.

Since its release as the world's first three-dimensional general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software, PHOENICS has built a long-standing reputation over the past 30 years as the global standard for CFD software in education, research, and development. In Japan, it has sold over 1,000 licenses to date. There is a reason why it has continued to sell for such a long time in the volatile software industry of science and technology. It accommodates everything from one-dimensional steady calculations to complex flows, including three-dimensional unsteady turbulence with chemical reactions, boiling, and phase changes in multiphase flows. Of course, for those who only need simple flow calculations, as they become more accustomed to the software, their demands will likely grow deeper and larger, such as wanting to use more advanced turbulence models, understanding how high-precision differences would change the results, or adding the atmosphere of the object to the calculation domain. PHOENICS, as a high-function general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software, is capable of meeting such demands. For more details, please contact us or refer to the catalog.

Case study of fluid analysis for a two-axis screw compressor.

Introduction to a fluid analysis simulation of a two-axis screw compressor using SimericsMP+ and SCORG, as a case study in thermal fluid analysis.

CFD allows for the shortening of product development periods, reduction of prototype costs, and acquisition of detailed data that is difficult to measure through experiments. In this article, we will introduce application examples that can be useful for product development using Simerics' CAE/CFD software. Two-axis screw compressors have applications in refrigeration and air conditioning-related fields, including air conditioners and refrigerators. In the design process, significant costs and time must be spent on prototyping and experiments. With Simerics' CFD, high-performance thermal fluid analysis can be processed quickly through large-scale parallel computing, yielding results easily and rapidly. Additionally, the cooling lubricants are analyzed using the VOF method, recreating conditions close to actual experiments. This is expected to lead to significant reductions in man-hours and costs! [Today's ANSYS] Utilized for water flow simulation (LIXIL)

We would like to introduce an interview article with Mr. Manabu Umeda and Mr. Shinichi Sagara from LIXIL Corporation!

I would like to introduce information about how CAE and CFD are useful in the world, including interesting application examples, primarily through articles from the information magazine "ADVANTAGE" published by ANSYS, Inc. and ANSYS Japan Co., Ltd. This time, we will present an interview article with Mr. Manabu Umeda and Mr. Shinichi Sagara from LIXIL Corporation, who are utilizing flow analysis of toilet products in the design and development of new products. There are various fluid analysis tools available, but the reason for choosing ANSYS Fluent is that it can simulate products such as toilets and bathtubs, which are composed of curved surfaces. One of the benefits of introducing simulation is "visualization." Since ceramic toilets can only be visually inspected up to the point where water accumulates, it is not possible to see the condition of the drainage path. With simulation, it is possible to confirm the internal flow on the drainage side, allowing for appropriate measures to be taken based on simulation results, rather than relying solely on the intuition and experience of the designers. *For more details, please download the PDF or contact us.*

Today's ANSYS mission is 'without prototyping' (Tokyo Electron)

We would like to introduce an interview article with Mr. Kazuo Kibi from Tokyo Electron Limited!

I would like to introduce information that highlights how CAE and CFD are beneficial to society, including interesting application examples, primarily through articles from the information magazine "ADVANTAGE" published by ANSYS, Inc. and ANSYS Japan Co., Ltd. This time, we will present an interview article with Mr. Kazuo Kibi from Tokyo Electron Limited. The company holds the top share in Japan and the third largest share in the world as a semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturer. As a long-time user of ANSYS Fluent, the company utilizes simulation to clarify and predict phenomena occurring within their manufacturing equipment. They leverage simulation software from upstream to downstream in the design process, but now the management has assigned them a more challenging mission of "not creating prototypes." Creating prototypes requires enormous costs and time. Therefore, if they can avoid making prototypes, there is no doubt that they can achieve significant economic and time benefits. *For more details, please download the PDF or contact us.

Introduction to "Manufacturing and Performance Analysis Solutions"

For evaluating product performance and examining manufacturing processes! We will introduce solutions related to manufacturing and performance analysis.

In recent years, due to the influence of weight reduction and efficiency improvements, the design and material technologies of automotive components have become increasingly advanced, making considerations such as "how to enhance product performance during the manufacturing process" increasingly important. However, in actual manufacturing processes, products are produced through multiple processes, yet many CAE analyses focus solely on a single process or physical phenomenon. ESI Group proposes to replicate and predict design and manufacturing processes that include multiple processes, challenging to reduce lead times and costs through virtual prototyping. 【Case Studies】 ■ Fatigue durability analysis considering the casting process By faithfully modeling the pressing, welding, and press-fitting processes and transferring the residual stress and strain from each process, we evaluate the impact on the final fatigue strength performance. ■ Impact analysis considering the die-casting process The strength of die-cast products decreases in proportion to the amount of surface oxides entrained during filling. By providing material strength corresponding to the amount of entrainment calculated from die-casting simulations and conducting impact simulations, we achieved a good correlation with actual machine tests. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Simerics MP+ is also used for oil cooling analysis of eAxle.

Analyze the oil cooling of the eAxle using Simerics, which has strong rotation and VOF capabilities! It's also suitable for switching from other general-purpose CFD solvers or particle methods.

【The following fluid analyses are possible】 ■ Free surface flow ■ Flow considering the compressibility of air contained in liquids ■ Pressure pulsation, water hammer effect ■ Coupling of pump flow with the rigid body motion of valves and cam rings ■ Flow in low to medium vacuum conditions ■ Compressible flow (subsonic) ■ Cavitation ■ Flow field (velocity vectors, pressure), flow rate, fluid forces, and time variation of torque Recently, there has been an increase in projects for oil cooling analysis of eAxles for automobiles, and when solving the VOF method with other CFD software, we have received inquiries such as: - Analysis time is too long - It is difficult to create fine calculation meshes - It diverges and does not converge Additionally, even when analyzing with particle methods, we have received feedback that accurate thermal analysis cannot be performed, and it can only determine the areas where oil is present. Our company undertakes actual contract work from Tier 1 customers, gaining know-how that cannot be obtained solely from software sales.
