[Cutting Processing Example] A6061-T6 (Aluminum) Throttle Valve

The key is how to set processing conditions to avoid intimidating thin-diameter cutting tools! Using OKUMA MULTUS B200 II.

We would like to introduce a machining case of the "throttle valve" that we conducted. Due to the large protrusion amount, when machining the central pocket hole, it is necessary to insert the cutting tool (ball end mill) from the tip of the protrusion. Since the tool length becomes longer, the key point is how to set the machining conditions to prevent the thin-diameter tool from vibrating. Precision machined products made of lead-free materials: BZ5A, CB156, SUM23, etc.

It is precision machining of environmentally friendly lead-free brass rods such as BZ5 and eco-brass materials.

Lead-free brass rod BZ5A is suitable for precision machining as an alternative to C3604, but complete separation of chips is necessary. Lead-free aluminum CB156 is a material with cutting properties similar to A2011. Sulfur-cutting steel SUM23 is a sulfur-based free-cutting steel that is lead-free. We have a track record of machining with environmentally friendly materials like the ones mentioned above. While the cutting performance may be slightly lower compared to materials containing lead, inquiries from manufacturers choosing lead-free materials are gradually increasing. We would like to introduce a case study of our expertise in thin-walled lathe machining. Machining of SUS304 using a multi-functional machine. We achieved a roundness of 0.02 through our unique machining method. We have technology that prevents distortion and deformation even for products considered difficult to machine. 【Case Study】 ■ Material: SUS304 ■ Size: Φ200 ■ Precision: 0.03 mm ■ Geometric Tolerance: Roundness 2 μm ■ Lot Size: 2 pieces ■ Industry: Automotive Industry ■ Application: Production equipment ■ Machining Method: Thin-walled lathe machining (machined with Integrex 200) 【Background of the Request】 The thin-walled parts had large openings, and it was not possible to finish SUS304 with high precision. Attempts were made in-house but were unsuccessful. There were no manufacturers capable of maintaining the required precision. For this project: 1. Due to the large openings, significant deformation occurs at the moment of cutting due to cutting resistance and the release of internal stress, so we developed a machining method that prevents deformation. 2. Since high precision is required, we selected a heat treatment method that does not cause deformation. 3.
