[Column] Useful Tips About Velcro

Introducing tips for improving the adhesion of hook-and-loop fasteners in our column!

When it comes to hook-and-loop fasteners, they are commonly used in various areas such as clothing, wallets, bags, and children's athletic shoes. Have you ever experienced that they don't stick as well as they used to? Hook-and-loop fasteners consist of a slightly hard J-hook (male) and a fluffy loop (female) that interlock for attachment and detachment. Therefore, if either side gets dirty, the hooks become stretched out, or the loops break, they will not be able to perform their intended function. So, what can be done? Here are some tips to improve their sticking ability. [Contents] ■ When dirt gets stuck ■ When cleaning does not restore functionality *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Feel free to contact us for further inquiries.

Arako Column Vol. 3 "The Evolution of Hook and Loop Fasteners"

Inspired by the wild burdock seeds stuck to my clothes and my beloved dog, I started my research!

I will convey the evolution of hook-and-loop fasteners once again. It all began in 1941 when I was climbing the Alps and got the idea from the wild burdock seeds that stuck to my clothes and my beloved dog. Research started in 1948. A patent was filed in 1951, and it was certified in 1955. In 1952, Velcro S.A. was established in Switzerland, producing hook-and-loop fasteners while also licensing to companies in various countries and establishing local subsidiaries, producing under the name "Velcro." *For detailed content of the column, please refer to the related links. Tips for making hook-and-loop fasteners last longer.

Velcro for batting gloves! Introducing Arako Column vol. 27.

I play baseball with my club team every Saturday and Sunday. Velcro is often used there as well, but this time I would like to talk about batting gloves. Batting gloves are gloves used during batting, and usually, the wrist area has Velcro for easy on and off. Of course, after using them in a game, they get dirty from sweat and sliding, so I wash them. However, by doing one thing during washing, you can prolong the durability of the Velcro. *For more details on the column, you can view it through the related link. Reverse thinking

Various Uses of Hook-and-Loop Fasteners! Introducing Arako Column Vol. 19

As a manufacturer of hook-and-loop fasteners, we encounter customers who use our products in a variety of ways. One of the most impressive ideas I came across in the past was from a customer who designed a rehabilitation product using the engagement strength of hook-and-loop fasteners. Many of you may already know that the sticking force between the hook and loop sides can be easily peeled apart by hand in the peeling direction (180° direction), but it has a very strong tensile strength in the pulling direction (horizontal direction). By utilizing this difference in strength based on "direction," the customer created a product that helps with the recovery and maintenance of hand functions, such as grip strength, by twisting the adhered hook-and-loop fasteners in a circular motion, resulting in a tearing sound. *For more details on the column, you can view it through the related link. The belief that Velcro was developed by NASA is a misunderstanding.

The reason for the misunderstanding! Introducing Arako Column vol. 14.

I have seen Velcro introduced as something "developed by NASA" in the past. In reality, it was invented by a Swiss man who loved hunting. The reason for this misunderstanding seems to be that during the Apollo program, Velcro, which refers to hook-and-loop fasteners, was adopted, and as a result, hook-and-loop fasteners became famous, leading to such misconceptions. *For more details on the column, you can view it through the related link.
