Plasma ion nitriding involves creating a glow discharge with the furnace body as the anode and the product as the cathode in a low-pressure nitrogen gas atmosphere, resulting in a soft light similar to a neon sign enveloping the product. The energy from the ions heats the product while simultaneously nitriding it.
