Enzymes are said to be excellent catalysts that enable highly active and regio- and stereoselective transformations under mild conditions of normal temperature and pressure. However, what kinds of enzyme reactions can be realistically utilized? To effectively harness enzymes for targeted reactions, it is important to understand their characteristics from a molecular perspective. We are conducting research focused on understanding enzymes and enzyme reactions from a chemical viewpoint, as well as exploring the utilization of enzymes with non-natural substrates. In particular, we are creating new added value in "metalloenzymes" and "PLP enzymes," which are expected to be utilized due to their ability to perform complex reactions.
