The Suikinkutsu is a Japanese garden technique for enjoying sound, believed to have been devised by gardeners during the Edo period. Its principle involves burying an unglazed pot with a hole in the bottom, allowing water from the ground to fall through the hole and strike the surface of the water that collects at the bottom, producing sound. The sound resonates inside the pot, creating a clear tone reminiscent of a koto, which is why it is called Suikinkutsu.

Addressing issues such as the treatment of protrusions at the corners, finishing welding marks neatly, and paying attention to the tactile feel were all challenges that typically do not arise in commercial products. The efforts of the development manager, Mr. Matsumoto, to resolve each of these issues were extraordinary. As a result, the finished product is remarkable. "Titanium is hard," and indeed, titanium is a difficult material to process, requiring advanced technology for its manipulation. If titanium could be shaped into a guinomi (sake cup) like pottery on a lathe, wouldn't you be surprised? This surprise has been realized in the titanium pressed guinomi "Tekkon."
