Free membership registrationIn the November 29, 2024 issue of the "Daily Construction Communication Newspaper," a case study from our client was featured. "First in Japan to Apply 'Approval Within BIM Model'" The major general contractor, Takenaka Corporation, has completely eliminated traditional 2D detailed drawings and was the first in Japan to apply "Approval Within BIM Model." "We accomplished everything with the Tekla model instead of creating detailed drawings. The approval process has been shortened for both the general contractor and the steel fabricator due to the approval within the model, leading to a reduction in the creation of detailed drawings," they discussed the effects. For more details on this initiative that overturns the conventional wisdom of "not relying on drawings," please check out the article.

Free membership registrationThe Tampere Deck Arena project is part of a large-scale development taking place around the central station of Finland's third-largest city. The construction of a unique activity complex that has emerged above the railway tracks in downtown Tampere was a highly unusual and challenging project even on an international level. The scale of construction, the complexity arising from various design requirements, the number of stakeholders involved, and overlapping responsibilities were challenges for the project, but these issues were resolved by combining various BIM models. One of the challenges faced by the designers was the coordination of interference issues that would have been unmanageable without the use of BIM for a project of this scale. By utilizing BIM, adjustments to the structures around the railway tracks and the positioning of ceilings and equipment were carried out without any problems. A large number of engineers participated in this project, and advanced BIM software was helpful when explaining construction decisions. Additionally, the use of BIM software allowed designers and other project stakeholders to focus on key tasks such as design and project management.

Free membership registrationThis construction is a renovation project for the Agora Evry Arena, which was built as an auditorium in 1970. At that time, it was a complex project that required high technical skills, and the expertise of the Bordan Châtauneuf team was necessary for the construction. The first challenge of this project was to recreate the design model of the existing building from scratch in order to add a new structure. The modeling was based on a manual created by Bordan Châtauneuf in 1970. Using point cloud data obtained from a 3D scan of the existing structure, the components were adjusted by a few centimeters. It was confirmed that the measured point cloud data had position information very close to that of the actual building. This "research" faced several unexpected challenges, but despite the difficulties, it became possible to continue working by utilizing Tekla ModelSharing.

Free membership registrationThe new Lappenloch Bridge is a single-track prestressed concrete bridge, with a total length of 66 meters for the superstructure. Since the Durnbiller Aach River flows beneath the bridge, it was necessary to use free-span formwork for construction, and a seating area was provided under the abutments. Additionally, due to the very narrow surrounding roads and limited access, the development of a lightweight formwork system was required. The maximum weight of each component at the top of the arch is limited to about 4 tons, and the total length of components that can be transported via existing roads is up to 12 meters. To address these stringent challenges, a slightly inclined arch-shaped steel pipe truss was adopted. This lattice truss is connected to the cross members to enhance load-bearing performance and is reinforced with tie rods to ensure the static load-bearing capacity of the concrete. All process planning from assembly to dismantling was carried out using "Tekla Structures." *For more details, please feel free to contact us. ⇩ The catalog can be downloaded from the special website below ⇩

Free membership registrationThe steel structure of the Forum Groningen, designed by NL Architects, consists of eight steel "masses" made of spatial trusses fixed on two concrete cores that serve as the foundation. These concrete cores are connected at the top by a bridge structure, designed to have deflections in separate directions, requiring the steel "masses" to also face in their respective directions. The detailed design, fabrication, assembly, tolerance assurance, and logistics of such a twisted structure proved to be complex, presenting significant challenges. As a result, all of the main structure, as well as the supporting structure of the facade made of natural stone that moves in three directions (2,600 tons), were modeled using Tekla. The design, modeling, production drawing creation, fabrication, and installation were carried out concurrently at two locations, but were executed on schedule thanks to the collaboration of the engineering team. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce a case study on the introduction of BIM software for the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium renovation project. The new fixed roof, which uses over 9,000 tons of steel, consists of two trusses spanning 177 meters in length and four cross trusses measuring 144 meters in length. This roof is retractable and splits into two panels that slide over the inner cross trusses. The panels are made up of five air-inflatable cushions measuring 72×7 meters, positioned between six steel hybrid trusses with a span of 72.5 meters. Additionally, during the assembly process, the main truss, which served as a guide for the other trusses, transmits vertical loads to two new evacuation towers on the west side and two linked pendulums integrated into the building on the east side, while completely isolating horizontal loads from the existing structure. The redevelopment of the stadium also includes the installation of a video scoreboard. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationIn August 2019, part of the roof of the Morenaar Stand at AFAS Stadium collapsed due to strong winds. Fortunately, there were no matches taking place, and no injuries were reported, but the damage was significant. There was a design flaw in the structural joints, with insufficient thickness in the welds, and damage from strong winds experienced in the past contributed to the collapse. At the end of 2019, ASK Romein was selected for the design and structural engineering, and they began collaborating with BAM Bouw en Techniek. BIM was maximally utilized throughout the engineering process, enabling clear communication among project stakeholders and seamless interaction between different software. Since there are many points of contact between the existing structure and the new structure, point cloud data measured with a 3D scanner is being used in the engineering and assembly processes. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationIn 2013, Sandvik received a project from their client Boral for a quarry located in Pepper Tree. The factory, located in Sydney, Australia, is equipped with six crushers, nine screening machines (vibrating screens), a conveyor belt approximately 3.4 km long, and a fully automated loading system. This project was one of the more complex ones undertaken by the company. The main challenge was integrating the complex new equipment into the existing factory, which had not been designed for it, and not all existing blueprints were available. By importing from other applications, utilizing past Tekla models, and performing rough modeling of the remaining parts, a complete three-dimensional model of the factory was reconstructed in "Tekla Structure" using the existing model and drawing information. Scanning the existing factory with Trimble's 3D laser scanner made it possible to compare the model with the actual factory, serving as the foundation for the design of the new equipment. *For more details, please feel free to contact us. ⇩ The catalog can be downloaded from the special website below ⇩

Free membership registrationIn this project, we are engineering a heating furnace with an air preheater, platform, and auxiliary support structures. There were two major challenges in this project. The first was the need to fit equipment into the confined space of the existing plant, while also facing constraints in the work area due to project specifications and equipment requirements. Through three-dimensional modeling with "Tekla Structures," we were able to accurately understand all requirements early in the project, evaluate the pros and cons of possible options, and confirm accessibility. The next challenge arose from layout changes to the equipment that occurred later in the project, necessitating extensive additional design work that affected both structural components and auxiliary support structures. Since the model objects perfectly matched the design drawings, the design team was able to respond flexibly to significant changes, mitigate impacts on the project schedule, and proactively avoid serious issues that could arise in design and fabrication. *For more details, please feel free to contact us. ⇩ The catalog can be downloaded from the special site below ⇩*

The project was agreed to be carried out during the amusement park's off-peak season, so the demolition work started after the summer peak season and the attraction needed to be completed before the following summer. Ensuring sufficient distance from existing structures and facilities was a major challenge in determining the shape of the roller coaster, and the varying landscape due to height was also a consideration in designing the foundation. The contractor conducted extensive laser scanning of the bedrock surface at the construction site, and this information was used in the design of the foundation for excavation and the installation of stress anchors. "Tekla Structures" can incorporate laser-scanned terrain data, allowing for the design of the foundation that secures the rails based on that data. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationInspired by the Easter egg of a Russian jeweler, the stadium designed features integrated walls and a roof that shine in the sunlight, attracting attention as a beautiful stage. The stadium is a steel structure with a gently curved, massive shape, requiring advanced technology for calculations of beam nodes and dimensions of joints with the basic structure. Additionally, during the modeling process, Mostproekt discovered that the size of the joint components posed transportation issues and conducted simulations on the Tekla model to create alternatives. As a result, by manufacturing products that consider shipping conditions, potential troubles were prevented. "Tekla Structures" played a significant role in solving such issues. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce the construction of coal-fired power generation facilities in the Republic of Chile, South America, which Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. received an order for in 2006. Chile, the manufacturing site, is located exactly on the opposite side of the Earth from Japan. The time difference, geographical distance, and different languages pose significant obstacles to information communication in design, manufacturing operations, and their process management. To address this, the company utilized "Tekla Structures" to accumulate and manage all information from design to manufacturing within a single 3D model. By doing so, they maintained consistency of information between the design site in Japan and the manufacturing site in Chile, aiming to reduce rework and inconsistencies in design and manufacturing operations. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us. Free membership registrationThe ICD Brookfield Place Tower, with 54 floors and a height of 282 meters, was constructed at the Dubai International Financial Centre. Considering the complex shape and the precision required at each construction stage, the steel structure design using Tekla played a crucial role in the project's success. "Tekla BIMsight" was widely used to identify interference points in the design by contractors for the roof and facade, equipment vendors, concrete contractors, and other stakeholders, and the detected interference points were resolved during the design phase. Adjusting the unique and complex steel structure was a challenging task, but BIM facilitated smooth coordination with the design and other stakeholders, as well as the generation of fabrication drawings, contributing to successful construction on schedule. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.
