The JCSS calibration range for weights and masses is from 1 mg to 1000 kg, and it is only for permanent calibration. The JCSS calibration range for scales is from 1 g to 40 tons, and it includes both permanent and on-site calibration.

Certified businesses that have been granted certification can issue calibration certificates affixed with the JCSS mark when they perform calibrations within the scope of their certification. Those who utilize the calibration services of certified businesses will receive calibrations that are traceable to national measurement standards. This serves as one of the foundations for the reliability of the measurements made by the users. Furthermore, by presenting calibration certificates marked with the JCSS emblem, it becomes possible to externally demonstrate that the calibrated measuring instruments or standard materials are traceable to national measurement standards. It also guarantees the reliability of the business's technical capabilities and quality systems.

In recent economic activities, it has become necessary to prove compliance with standards and specifications regarding product specifications, quality, and safety. Particularly in quality system certification schemes (such as the ISO 9000 series and QS 9000), all equipment used for inspection, measurement, and testing, including measuring instruments that affect product quality, must have traceability to international or national standards with known accuracy and stability. Additionally, in laboratory accreditation schemes (ISO/IEC 17025), measurement traceability must be ensured through the use of calibration services from organizations that can demonstrate appropriate capability, measurement capability, and traceability. Calibration certificates issued by these calibration organizations must indicate that they are linked to primary standards through an unbroken chain of calibrations or to natural constants that realize SI units. Calibration certificates are required to provide measurement results, including statements of measurement uncertainty or conformity to specified measurement specifications.
