The generator produces direct current electricity, generating a maximum direct current voltage of about 12V. Since it outputs direct current, it can be used in various ways as a substitute for batteries. Turning the handle to the right makes the red of the alligator clip positive (+) and the black negative (−). Turning it the other way reverses the polarity. It can also light a 100V bulb.
