San Kogyo's zinc plating line consists of two types: an automatic plating line suitable for mass production and a manual line where skilled workers perform plating by hand for each individual item. We tried a PFOA-compliant product for Teflon-lubricated electroless nickel plating, but there were issues such as a lack of visual gloss and uneven surfaces. At Sun Industry, we have already evaluated many PFOA-compliant products and are progressing towards mass production. Since Teflon-lubricated electroless nickel plating with PFOA measures often differs in appearance and management points from conventional products, we conducted tests on many chemicals and were able to pre-evaluate the dispersion state and appearance of Teflon particles in the development department to select the most suitable ones. We would like to apply a blackening treatment to aluminum die-cast materials, but with other companies' plating, the black color did not develop well and resulted in a light gray appearance. As a workaround, we have been using oil to eliminate surface irregularities, which has been a concern. Therefore, we proposed to adjust the component ratio of black chrome plating to achieve a matte black appearance while maintaining the plating state. However, due to the material being aluminum, there were no manufacturers capable of direct plating, which posed a problem. In response, Sun Industry proposed a treatment that involved applying an electroless nickel plating as a base layer instead of direct chrome plating. As a result, a plating method with good adhesion was established, allowing us to eliminate the finishing buffing process without worsening the surface roughness from the previous buffing state, thereby reducing the total cost. In conventional products, hard chrome plating is applied to stainless steel for corrosion resistance. However, there was a challenge in trying to change the material to iron to reduce material costs, as the product has many bent and welded parts, resulting in areas without hard chrome plating. There was a challenge where iron powder adhered to stainless steel products, causing rust to develop, and the passivation treatment was insufficient to remove the iron adequately, leading to faster deterioration of the liquid. The question arose whether iron powder could be removed and treated through passivation. Therefore, an additional process for removing iron powder was added separately from the passivation process. As a result, by separating the rust removal and passivation processes for stainless materials with iron powder attached, we were able to significantly suppress the occurrence of rust after passivation. We were processing micro brass parts, measuring a few millimeters in size, using a barrel for electroplating with tin. However, we faced issues with parts sticking together, leading to areas without plating and uneven plating. We had outsourced the black dyeing process, but there were issues with variations in the shade of black depending on the lot, and at times, the appearance would turn reddish-brown and powdery. In response, Sun Industry has implemented strict management of the boiling point not in the line's tank, but using sample liquid drawn into beakers, ensuring it stays within a range of ±1℃ of the standard value. This has allowed us to prevent variations in dyeing between lots. By implementing this management, we have also been able to prevent the powdery appearance, and by performing surface treatment before the black dyeing process, we can achieve a more uniform shade of black.
