Free membership registrationThis is an introduction to a case study of molybdenum (Mo) processing. =============================== From a Φ25 cylinder with Φ2 and M3 screw holes, it is machined as a single piece up to the upper grid. The grid has a Φ16 hole with a diameter of 1.2, and the thickness is 0.3 ± 0.02. =============================== Parts that were originally separate can sometimes be proposed as a single integrated piece, considering the usage environment and cost. While machining rare metals can sometimes waste materials, there are often advantages such as <lower overall costs> and <not having to worry about joining methods>. If you have parts with such challenges, please feel free to consult with us!

Free membership registrationMonel is a nickel-based alloy that contains 29-33% copper. It has excellent resistance to acids and corrosion, and due to these properties, it is used in corrosive and high-temperature environments such as seawater and chemical plants (e.g., seawater desalination evaporators, salt production plant equipment, crude oil distillation towers). Additionally, it has higher strength and superior water resistance compared to stainless copper, which is why it was once used for tableware and cooking utensils. ■ Challenges in Monel Processing - It tends to retain heat and is prone to work hardening, leading to significant tool wear. - It is soft and easily scratched. ■ Technical Points - Scratch-free surface finish. - Strict tolerance compliance (±0.01). - Capable of processing various shapes and sizes, including screws, washers, and flanges.

Free membership registrationThis time, I would like to introduce examples of joining using silver solder. There are various methods for joining metals, such as gas welding, arc welding, laser welding, and electron beam welding, all of which involve melting the base material to join them. On the other hand, in the case of brazing, a filler material with a lower melting point than the base material is melted to join the parts, allowing for the joining of complex shapes or precision parts without melting the base material. Additionally, with metallization treatment, it is also possible to join metals and ceramics. The common method for melting the filler material is using a gas burner, but high-frequency induction heating or heating furnaces may also be used, and the optimal method is chosen based on the size, shape, and quantity of the parts to be joined. I am looking forward to trying various materials in the future. Furthermore, I can offer proposals that include not only joining but also shape processing, so please feel free to consult with me. ■ Cross-sectional images Cu + Cu (Copper + Copper) W + Cu (Tungsten + Copper) Mo + Cu (Molybdenum + Copper) Mo + Mo (Molybdenum + Molybdenum)

Free membership registration■Development of Molybdenum-Ruthenium Filler Metal This filler metal is used for joining (brazing) high melting point metals due to its high melting point, but it is not commercially available, so it was necessary to procure the materials independently. Using the developed filler metal, we attempted brazing between tungsten pieces. *The left side of the photo shows porous tungsten.* Photo 1: Observed by a CCD camera. This is a failed example where a large gap occurred at the joint. In reality, it was quite difficult to achieve a good result. Photo 2: Successful example! (The joint is in the center of the photo.) Photo 3: Reflection electron image by SEM. It can be seen that the joint is made without gaps due to the filler metal. Photo 4: Element mapping. The joint area has become clear. Perhaps due to its porous nature, the filler metal seems to have diffused on the left side. ◆Our company possesses a super high-temperature heat treatment furnace capable of up to [2700°C]. We have numerous furnaces that can accommodate various atmospheres and offer solutions utilizing heat treatment furnaces tailored to your needs. - Coating - Brazing - Functional material development - Sintering - Residual stress removal - Grain size control - Oxide removal - Contamination removal - Degassing - De-greasing ...and more.

Free membership registration■Background of Development For many years, we have been commercializing various shapes of filaments using tungsten. However, in recent years, with advancements in science and technology, customer needs have diversified, making it increasingly difficult to meet their demands with tungsten alone. ■Overview of Development With the aim of enhancing the functionality of filaments, examples of customer requests included "insulation," "corrosion resistance," and "low work function." In response, we have incorporated the following into our filaments: ● Aluminum oxide (alumina) for [insulation] (Coating alumina onto tungsten coils) ● Yttrium oxide (yttria) to provide [corrosion resistance] and [low work function], successfully enhancing functionality. (Coating yttria (Y203) onto the filaments) ■Details of Development In developing the coating technology, we adopted a certain method. While it is a common approach, it is based on [our unique equipment and manufacturing process]. We optimize factors such as particle size, mixing ratio, and film thickness through experimental investigation, but this is not easy. Ultimately, the number of experiments has reached into the thousands, and we continue to work on quality improvement.

Free membership registrationGenerally, high-temperature heat treatment takes several hours, which can be costly and time-consuming. Gakuseki Electric has been conducting heat treatment of high melting point metals and ceramics, including tungsten. In particular, to quickly and efficiently perform heat treatment for small, low-volume, and diverse products, we have repeatedly conducted various experiments and successfully developed a high-speed high-temperature vacuum furnace capable of reaching approximately 2700°C. With this equipment, ■2500°C for 30 minutes ⇒ The entire process from the start of heating to cooling down is completed in about 2 hours! We have achieved efficiency and cost reduction. Additionally, substances that cannot be completely removed in general furnaces can also be heated and removed. ーーー We also accommodate various high-temperature heat treatments, including multi-atmosphere sintering furnaces and forming gas flushing furnaces. Through these high-temperature heat treatments, it is possible to ultimately prevent the residue and contamination of impurities. With decades of accumulated experience and know-how in heat treatment, please leave the heat treatment of metals to Gakuseki Electric. ーーー

Free membership registrationTungsten and similar materials have a significant coil back (spring back), but with our years of expertise, we can accommodate various designs and shapes. ◆ We can manufacture a wide variety of coils, from fine wires of a few microns to thick materials. Supported sizes (example): Wire diameter Φ0.01 to 5mm (subject to consultation) ◆ Coiling machine with automatic tension adjustment feature Due to changes in material weight, the back tension differs between the start and end of winding. To produce uniform filaments, a consistent tension must be maintained, and we have our original coiling machine that automatically controls the back tension. ◆ Cost reduction with servo-controlled mandrel-less forming machine For various coil shapes, our NC-type coiling machine allows control simply by inputting design values, making fine adjustments easy. We essentially design all equipment in-house, ranging from fully automatic to semi-automatic machines. ◆ Reliable technological capabilities trusted overseas We have a long history of exporting coils related to lighting and analytical instruments to European and American countries.

Free membership registrationNow, let me introduce the "Ni-Ti Coating Coil." It may sound a bit confusing as I write this, but here are the processes involved: (1) Coiling of Ni-Ti (high elasticity, shape memory alloy) (2) Shape memory treatment (500°C) (3) PTFE coating The Ni-Ti alloy is known for its superelasticity, and we plan to develop products that leverage this characteristic. By applying a PTFE coating, the design is safe for insertion into the body. Additionally, PTFE allows for color selection based on purpose (please consult for color variations). As a side note, the current sample is intended for orthodontic purposes, and there was a request for a slightly yellowish white instead of a bright white, as the latter would be too conspicuous (though it would be a perfect match for Coach Shinjo). This also depends on user preferences, but in Western countries, due to high medical costs, there is a perception that "orthodontics = wealth," leading to opinions that some may want it to stand out more.

Free membership registrationManufactured by deep drawing from two parts with a difficult size due to the small diameter! Our machining professionals designed and produced this targeting the food manufacturing industry. Without using any welding, we wrapped the bottom cover with a stainless steel tube and crimped it. In food-related applications, it is unacceptable for carcinogenic welds to leach into water. If a screw shape is used, grease and seal tape would be necessary, which would leach into water, making it unsuitable. This shape solves that problem. We also conducted leak tests in-house, and the result was no leaks at all. ================================= 【Processing Example】 Φ30 pipe with a wall thickness of 4mm + Φ29 x 2mm round bar ================================= Our company manufactures small parts like these, as well as components for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, special electrodes for various discharge lamps, and special filaments. Gakuseki Electric has expertise in coiling, heat treatment technology, and difficult-to-machine materials, with a wealth of experience both in Japan and overseas. We are a manufacturer capable of providing technical proposals based on 45 years of accumulated achievements and experience!

Free membership registrationWe challenged ourselves to create the smallest size of tungsten screws using NC automatic lathes. We are machining from tungsten rods with a diameter of φ2 and lengths of 1000 to 2000L. As the size decreases, it is necessary to use thinner cutting edges. Thinner cutting edges lead to shorter tool life and a higher likelihood of chipping. We have optimized various materials and shapes, from commercially available tips to brazed tools. =============================== 【Processing Examples】 ● Total length 17L ● Central part M3 coarse pitch P0.5×3mm (Above) ● End part M2 fine pitch P0.25×7mm (Below) ● End part M1.6 coarse pitch P0.35×7mm =============================== Our company has a long history in the field of small and micro machining. We provide one-stop solutions from initial experiments and development to small batch production and mass production. Free membership registrationYakeshi Electric is also engaged in the development of "functional materials" such as porous tungsten materials. Porous tungsten is a functional material that utilizes capillary phenomena in its porous sections to inject special liquids. It can also be made lightweight. Since it is a brittle material, it typically breaks due to the impact of machining. Therefore, it is common to impregnate it with metals or resins to fill the pores and ensure strength before processing. This time, we will impregnate copper into the porous tungsten after sintering. ----------------------------------- ◇ Photo 3 〈Left〉 Before copper impregnation 〈Right〉 After copper impregnation ◇ Photo 4 Porous tungsten impregnated with copper, processed to a thin thickness, and in a state where the copper has been removed. It is not cracked! Thickness: 0.5mm ----------------------------------- This porous tungsten can also have its porosity adjusted. If you have any issues during the research and development stage, we can collaborate on development with techniques for difficult processing such as thin materials! *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationTo promote crystal growth without allowing hydrogen molecules to enter the grain boundaries, a high vacuum environment was necessary. Additionally, to achieve secondary recrystallization of potassium-doped tungsten, it was also required to heat the workpiece itself to over 2000°C. As a result, we developed the equipment in-house. The first model achieved a work temperature of up to 2000°C, and the subsequent third model reached up to 2800°C. This equipment is utilized not only for the manufacturing of halogen lamp components but also for various manufacturing processes that require ultra-high temperature treatment. In particular, it has become indispensable for the removal of strong impurities, such as alumina for medical components and electrodes for ultra-high pressure mercury lamps. *For more details, please refer to the external link page or feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationAlumina ceramics cannot be sealed using a bonding method like glass, so instead, a method is generally employed where frit glass is melted and poured into the small gap between the electrode and the valve to seal it. Therefore, the electrode materials in the sealing area require conductivity, high-temperature resistance, and halogen resistance, and it is also necessary to ensure that there is an appropriate thermal expansion coefficient relationship between the frit glass, alumina valve, and electrode. Considering the required characteristics of alumina powder and Mo powder (or W powder), the selection of raw materials, mixing, and sintering conditions are optimized to develop and manufacture conductive materials. When the melted frit glass flows into the small gap (capillary) due to capillary action, factors such as the surface roughness of the developed materials are also taken into account, and processes like centerless grinding are performed for finishing. *For more details, please refer to the external link page or feel free to contact us.*

Free membership registrationTo achieve low-energy discharge, the electrodes must be made of materials with a low work function. One method is to add oxides and manufacture them through sintering; however, if there are too many oxides, the sintering temperature for tungsten may differ, which can result in insufficient sintering conditions. In such cases, tungsten alone can meet the necessary sintering conditions and maintain its physical properties at a high level. Subsequently, emitters that have been manufactured separately and can add easy discharge properties are impregnated into the sintered tungsten, ultimately resulting in a state where both are physically and chemically bonded. To realize this, hundreds or thousands of patterns must be repeatedly experimented with and developed. This diligent trial-and-error approach, carried out with agility, is the attitude and characteristic of our company's development efforts. *For more details, please refer to the external link page or feel free to contact us.*

Free membership registrationTungsten is a sintered metal, a high-cost product that is produced by sintering powder materials at high temperatures and then forging to finish. It is a hard metal that is difficult to bend, presenting challenges in terms of cost and workability. To address this issue, we decided to manufacture resin tungsten by mixing tungsten with materials such as resin and rubber, rather than using metallic tungsten through the sintering method. Depending on the required specifications, we can change the size of the tungsten powder, the composition of the resin material, and the methods of mixing and kneading. It has been proven that even very thin layers can shield gamma rays. *For more details, please refer to the external link page or feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationThorium tungsten is a material that adds thorium oxide to tungsten, resulting in a low work function, good electron emission properties, and stable discharge characteristics. However, thorium oxide is a radioactive substance, and its manufacturing requires inspection and approval, with finished products containing it also subject to NORM guidelines. Taking into account the requests and issues of various lamp manufacturing companies both domestically and internationally, we collaborated with Japan Tungsten to develop materials that can withstand lamp usage. Development was primarily focused on neodymium oxide and hafnium oxide, achieving evaluation results in lamp lighting assessments—considering crystal growth, strength, toxicity, discharge characteristics, blackening, and lifespan—comparable to those of conventional thorium tungsten. *For more details, please refer to the external link page or feel free to contact us.*
