Even items that we have taken for granted and thrown away as garbage can be recycled if they can be, so starting from April this year, we have been having a recycling company collect paper products. We had already been recycling cardboard, but as we began to collect more, we realized that in the office there are many recyclable items such as copy paper, envelopes, shredded paper, and in the packing and shipping department, release paper from labels and tape cores. So far, we have been able to recycle about 80 to 90 kg of materials each month. Thanks to this, our waste has decreased, and we have saved money. While recycling is better for the environment than throwing things away as garbage, recycling items to a reusable state also requires various resources, so moving forward, I would like to think of ways to not produce waste in the first place.

It is said that 4,000 babies and children lose their lives every day, which is one every 20 seconds, due to the lack of vaccines. In collaboration with the NPO "Vaccines for the World's Children," for each smile screw sold, a donation equivalent to one dose of polio vaccine will be made. The outbreak of the new coronavirus has made me personally feel the fear of not having vaccines and the sense of security that comes after vaccination. When I hear "office job," I have a strong impression of just sitting all the time, but I think that at Konmuro Seisakusho, the office work involves a lot of moving around and sitting repeatedly. I can't count how many times I go up and down the stairs in a day. Of course, there is an elevator, but it takes time to call it, and using the stairs is faster, so I tend to choose the stairs. Once you become a working adult, there are fewer opportunities to move your body, so I think it's very beneficial to be active (walking and going up and down stairs) at the company. It's a small thing, but I plan to be mindful and work on my health.

To prevent passive smoking, we have set up a designated smoking area outside. The smoking area is located in a well-ventilated place, and windbreak guards have also been installed. The windbreak guards have the advantage of keeping smokers warm, but they also seem to be effective at blocking cigarette smoke, so even when passing nearby, one does not feel much of a tobacco smell. By having a designated smoking area, we have created an environment where both smokers and non-smokers can work comfortably without stress.

I thought about what could be considered SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) within the company. In the company, there are various people who bring their own lunch, those who buy from convenience stores, and those who eat the bento ordered by the company. However, when the bento ordered by the company goes uneaten and ends up being leftover, we make sure that someone takes it home to eat, so it doesn't go to waste. As for what each individual can do, items that have passed their expiration date at convenience stores are discarded immediately, so when purchasing items that need to be eaten right away, I make sure to buy from the front of the display shelf. I buy only what I can eat. I pay attention to not buying or making too much, and so on. I want to start by being mindful myself.
