Business Activities
Back in the 1980s, the standard method for displaying hazardous-material information on drum cans was direct printing using stencils (cut-out letter templates) and paint spray. Because the work was done outdoors, it stopped whenever it rained, and on windy days the paint scattered everywhere. Shipping delays were a daily occurrence. "Isn't there a way to display safety information faster and more reliably?" — We felt we had to answer the voices from the field. After much trial and error, we arrived ahead of the world at a solution: "converting to labels." In 1986, we began developing the label-printing system that would become the forerunner of our CPS business. The following year, we launched the "JP8300L," Japan's first commercial label printer equipped with an in-house-developed typeface designed exclusively for labels.
