Beryllium copper undergoes precipitation hardening, where beryllium precipitates within the structure, resulting in tensile strength and hardness values that are among the highest for copper alloys (up to 1500 N/mm² for C1720). This process is known as aging treatment (heat treatment); however, after aging treatment, there can be cases where bending processing leads to cracking or where machining resistance is high, making it difficult to process effectively. Since its machinability is not as good compared to brass, it is often the case that the material is partially processed before heat treatment for finishing, or that aging treatment is performed after machining. There are recommended settings for heat treatment that are somewhat fixed.
