It is surprisingly difficult to stably procure a catalyst that is used in small quantities for specific applications from external sources. It is hard to obtain in small lots, and performance varies when the lot changes. Such challenges are not uncommon in the development of functional materials, sensors, and chemical products. Yazaki also faced the same challenges with the catalysts used in gas detection elements for gas sensors. Instead of relying on external procurement, they established a system to stably produce the necessary amount in-house.
