Centerless grinding is a type of cylindrical grinding, but it does not have a center to support the workpiece, hence it is called center-less, meaning "without a center." One of the advantages of centerless grinding is that the workpiece is guided along its entire length by the regulating wheel and blade, which minimizes the deformation of the workpiece itself, allowing for high-precision grinding. Our "through grinding processing" offers good tolerances and roundness, and can accommodate workpieces without steps. We would like to introduce the "Rotary Grinding Process" of Tateishi Fiber Co., Ltd., which has good surface roughness (approximately Rz3.2). This process is suitable when the upper and lower machining allowances are different. The workpiece is fixed using magnetic force and grinding is performed. In particular, double-sided grinding accounts for 50% of our processing, and we perform several setup changes throughout the day. By utilizing highly productive mass production machines such as double-sided grinding machines, we can achieve a reduction in processing time. 5% of our monthly production consists of small lots ranging from 1 to 1,000 pieces. Due to the demand for small lots, we have the technology to change setups several times a day for both flat and outer diameter processing. Additionally, taking advantage of our convenient location in Naka Ward, Nagoya City, we can accommodate short delivery times. We typically deliver within one week after receiving the items. Our company's horizontal double-sided grinding machine places the workpiece in a V-shape, fixing the outer diameter while grinding the end face. Since the positions of the outer diameter and end face are always constant, the perpendicularity is high precision, within 0.01. Additionally, because the outer diameter is held, the angles of the left and right grinding wheels can be set with a ratio of 3:1. In a double-sided grinding machine, since the workpiece is not fixed during the grinding process, tall workpieces are ground in an unstable condition, resulting in inconsistent precision. At our company, we adjust the thickness and shape of the carrier plate that supports the workpiece, as well as the type of grinding wheel, to meet the conditions suitable for the workpiece, accommodating an outer diameter to height ratio of 1:0.72.
