August Seminar: Trends and Outlook of Water Business for Data Centers (DC)

Trends and Prospects of the Water Business for Expanding Data Centers Worldwide - Including Demand Trends and Future Potential for Cooling Water, Water Rights in Various Countries, and Examples of Water Usage Practices.

Once, the decisive factors influencing the location of data center (DC) construction were "stable power supply" and "low-latency communication networks." However, the priority of these factors has dramatically changed. Now, what mega cloud providers and AI infrastructure companies around the world are most focused on is not power or communication, but the securing of "water." With the explosive proliferation of generative AI, GPUs (graphics processing units) responsible for computational processing have experienced unprecedented heat generation. Consequently, DCs have transformed from "facilities that consume large amounts of electricity" to "facilities that consume large amounts of water." In this seminar, we will provide a multifaceted explanation of the cost comparison of water cooling in DCs, the latest technological trends and market conditions, examples of water usage, and business prospects, presented by Professor Yoshimura, Chair of the Water Security Strategy Organization and Technical Advisor at the United Nations Headquarters. *This seminar can be attended in person at the venue, via live streaming (Zoom), or through an archive (to be distributed later). *The application form can be found at the bottom of the related link. [October Seminar] Basic Knowledge of Electricity Useful in the Field

- To deepen understanding by actually handling electrical equipment, the number of participants is limited, incorporating plenty of "hands-on exercises with actual devices" - for those outside the specialty -

★Do you feel uneasy about electricity because it is "invisible," "odorless," and "dangerous"? However, there are many situations where engineers must confront electricity, and you have probably felt at least once that it would be helpful to know a bit more about it. ★In this seminar, we will provide practical knowledge about electrical equipment, control devices, and measurements that are useful in the field, explained as simply as possible with plenty of hands-on exercises so that even those outside the field can understand. *Feel free to ask questions at any time. We also encourage your active participation in the experiments! *Camera recording is allowed, but please refrain from bringing in equipment that can be set up permanently or from continuous recording. Also, please come dressed lightly as we will be conducting experiments. *This seminar is only available for in-person attendance at the venue. ★The application form can be found at the bottom of the related links. Example of Building a Quotation System for Plant Manufacturing Equipment

~Streamlining Estimates with Excel~

In plant engineering companies, many engineers are involved in cost-related tasks such as estimation, evaluation, and cost reduction. In practice, there is a constant demand for quick responses and cost reduction through the computerization or simplification of estimation tasks. The equipment for plant fabrication targeted in this document consists of specially designed items that are created for each instance. Understanding the composition of these costs can be challenging for those not in the manufacturing position, but the monetary weight is significant, and there is a need to enhance cost evaluation capabilities. This document is created primarily based on examples of a detailed estimation method, known as the bottom-up estimation, and the construction of an estimation system for fabricated equipment to assist in such cases. The examples of the estimation system construction in this document include three types related to wastewater treatment plants: "rapid filtration machine," "circular central suspended sludge scraper," and "dewatered cake storage hopper," but the concepts should also be applicable to other types. I hope this serves as an example for the development of estimation systems.

[Book] Fundamentals and Practice of Plant Cost Estimation

Basics and Practice of Plant Cost Estimation

It is often considered very difficult for users of equipment to conduct rough cost estimates themselves, as they typically have limited cost data at hand. However, in today's highly competitive globalized era, it is expected that related engineers will improve their cost estimation skills. This document aims to assist in enhancing the capabilities of engineers in this era by providing fundamental knowledge about rough cost estimation for chemical plants, basic estimation methods, and practical estimation examples. It is hoped that this will serve as a starting point for readers to improve their estimation skills and cost engineering abilities.

[Book] Basics of Estimating Towers, Vessels, and Heat Exchangers for Plant Engineers

Basic Estimation of Towers, Vessels, and Heat Exchangers for Plant Engineers

Towers, vessels, heat exchangers, and reactors are referred to as "fabrication equipment," which accounts for about 20% of the construction costs of petrochemical plants that primarily handle fluids, making it an important item for estimation and procurement personnel. This document provides a detailed explanation of the estimation of towers, vessels, and heat exchangers. The main explanatory content includes the following items: - Detailed explanation of the cost composition items and their contents for towers, vessels, and heat exchangers. - Explanation of the manufacturing procedures for towers, vessels, and heat exchangers, using charts and illustrations as knowledge related to processing costs. - Detailed explanation of the "bottom-up" estimation method for towers, vessels, and heat exchangers. - Explanation of various rough estimation methods for towers, vessels, and heat exchangers. - Explanation of key points for cost reduction in towers, vessels, and heat exchangers. *Request* - The design, manufacturing, and inspection technologies related to towers, vessels, and heat exchangers are advancing rapidly, and the actual factory equipment and manufacturing procedures of tower, vessel, and heat exchanger manufacturers, as well as the procurement and outsourcing of materials and parts, vary widely. It is recommended that readers study the latest information individually using this document as a hint. - The various data in the charts and tables of this document have been prepared with some consideration, but most are presented as reference examples for explanation. In practice, please ensure to refer to the latest specialized books and materials.

[Book] The Reality of Cost Estimation <Revised Edition 1>

◆◆◆ Ideal as an introductory book for estimating plant and equipment costs ◆◆◆

The title of this book is "The Reality of Cost Estimation," which is straightforward, but the content explains how the author has approached the "cost estimation of bidding projects based on construction contracts for chemical plants and similar facilities" over many years, incorporating related matters such as design, procurement, and construction from the contractor's perspective. In actual cost estimation, the contractor selects estimation methods tailored to the situation for each cost component, taking into account the client's "request for quotation/specifications" and the contractor's "experience." This book provides explanations based on the author's practical experience in typical cases.
