■ What is Millimeter Wave? The proliferation of wireless devices is rapidly advancing, and in recent years, the frequency bands have been shifting towards higher frequencies. Millimeter waves and microwaves do not have precise definitions, but they generally refer to electromagnetic waves in the frequency range of approximately 10GHz to 240GHz, characterized by the following features: <Features> Due to their properties being close to light and their strong directivity, they are suitable for short-range wideband information communication. They allow for a wide bandwidth, which is advantageous for high-speed transmission, and unlike the 5GHz band, they have less interference with other signals. For products using the millimeter wave band, spurious detection is required in various countries. Conducting accurate tests on millimeter waves, which have strong directivity, requires sufficient knowledge, experience, and technology. UL provides millimeter wave radio testing services with experienced testers as a third-party certification. We also have measuring instruments capable of operating up to 240 GHz, enabling us to offer one-stop services for radio law testing and certification in Japan, North America, and Europe, as well as for WirelessHD and WiGig logo certification.

Free membership registrationIn recent years, many products have been equipped with Bluetooth® technology. Obtaining certification is essential for products to incorporate Bluetooth wireless technology and display the Bluetooth logo (figurative mark). However, Bluetooth logo certification involves a complex process that includes pre-compliance, advisory (technical consultation and information provision), interoperability checks, and regulatory compliance testing. ■ Features of UL JAPAN UL Japan has been accredited by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. as a Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility (BQTF) since 2002 and has over 10 years of experience in supporting logo certification acquisition. It is also one of the few testing laboratories that has a Bluetooth Qualification Consultant (BQC), who is a Bluetooth SIG certified expert. UL Japan is capable of supporting the latest Bluetooth standard, Bluetooth 5.1.

Free membership registrationSAR (Specific Absorption Rate) refers to the specific absorption rate of electromagnetic wave energy applied to certain parts of the human body. SAR testing includes Head SAR testing for the head and Body SAR testing for the torso (excluding the head). Initially, the main testing focused on Head SAR testing for electromagnetic wave energy applied to the head, such as from mobile phones and cordless phones. However, with the increase in wireless devices other than mobile phones, there has been a growing demand for Body SAR testing for the torso (excluding the head), particularly in the United States. UL Japan has introduced DASY5, which can test Head SAR and Body SAR in the frequency range of 250 MHz to 5.8 GHz. Additionally, we provide mobile device test sets to test mobile terminals and information devices that use GSM, CDMA, and LTE standards.

Free membership registrationA new EMC testing facility equipped with a large equipment electromagnetic wave anechoic chamber has started operations within UL Japan's Ise headquarters in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. <Acceleration of Electrification in the Construction Machinery Industry> To improve on-site safety and address labor shortages, the introduction of ICT and electrification in construction machinery is progressing. As construction machines are increasingly equipped with numerous electronic components, the importance of EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) testing is rising to prevent accidents caused by electromagnetic noise and interference. <Enforcement of Standards Related to Construction Machinery> In 2021, the enforcement of the latest standards for construction machinery, "EN ISO 13766-1, 2:2018," is scheduled. This enforcement will expand the upper frequency limit for radiated immunity and require electromagnetic wave exposure to the construction machinery body. In Europe, a standard transition is planned for 2021, and compliance with the latest standards will be necessary when launching products.

Free membership registrationVibration testing simulates the usage and transportation environments to verify whether the product can perform its functions. Products that are not affected by vibrations during normal use still need to consider the vibrations experienced during transportation. 【Equipment Overview】 ● Combined Environmental Vibration Test System Simultaneously or individually controls three environmental conditions: "vibration," "temperature," and "humidity," applying environmental stress to the test samples. This allows for testing that aligns with actual environmental conditions, resulting in more reliable tests. ● Vibration Test System Main tests include sinusoidal vibration tests, random vibration tests, and shock tests to confirm vibration resistance performance. ● Shock Test System Capable of generating various pulse types (positive half sine, sawtooth, trapezoidal) for the required shock action duration. ● Drop Test System Can securely hold test samples weighing up to 5 kg in any orientation, allowing for stable free-fall tests.

Free membership registrationBy significantly increasing the vapor pressure in the test chamber above the vapor pressure of the moisture inside the sample, the intrusion of moisture into the sample can be accelerated, allowing for a quicker evaluation of moisture resistance. The pressure cooker test is conducted in an environment with temperatures above 100°C and a high-density water vapor atmosphere. 【Scope of Application】 Small electronic components, primarily those that are not hermetically sealed. However, it does not aim to evaluate effects occurring on the surface of the sample, such as corrosion or deformation. 【Test Overview】 - An electrical bias is usually applied to the sample. - The test conditions should be carefully selected, as they can significantly impact the failure modes that occur in the specimen. - The tests are conducted at a relative humidity of 85% across three different temperature levels. The severity of the test is defined by the duration of each test.
