The mesh is defined as "woven with metal wire at right angles (plain weave)," but for mesh openings of 2.36mm or larger, we use a flat top weave that creates a bend in the metal wire beforehand to prevent distortion of the sieve openings. For sieve mesh with a nominal opening of 45μm or smaller, it is specified that a twill weave is acceptable, but we have defined it as a twill weave for openings of 38μm or smaller.
