What is the 2024 issue in the logistics industry?

The "2024 Logistics Problem" refers to the issue arising from the enforcement of labor reform-related laws starting April 1, 2024, which will impose restrictions on overtime work for truck drivers.
In an effort to address the long-standing issue of "long working hours for truck drivers" in the logistics industry, the annual limit on overtime hours for driving operations will be reduced from 1,176 hours to 960 hours after April 1, 2024.
Additionally, while the overtime pay premium has been 25% until now, it will be raised to 50% or more for hours exceeding 60 in a month after the amendment.
These issues are expected to lead to a decrease in drivers' income and force shippers to raise freight rates.
In response to these challenges, efforts are being made to improve the social status of drivers by establishing a more conducive working environment, enhancing the efficiency of loading and unloading operations, and introducing IT systems and AI.
The goal of these initiatives is to improve productivity and streamline operations so that the reduction in working hours does not lead to a decrease in revenue.
