Brazing (silver brazing) joining examples

Joining precision parts without melting the base material.

This time, I would like to introduce examples of joining using silver solder. There are various methods for joining metals, such as gas welding, arc welding, laser welding, and electron beam welding, all of which involve melting the base material to join them. On the other hand, in the case of brazing, a filler material with a lower melting point than the base material is melted to join the parts, allowing for the joining of complex shapes or precision parts without melting the base material. Additionally, with metallization treatment, it is also possible to join metals and ceramics. The common method for melting the filler material is using a gas burner, but high-frequency induction heating or heating furnaces may also be used, and the optimal method is chosen based on the size, shape, and quantity of the parts to be joined. I am looking forward to trying various materials in the future. Furthermore, I can offer proposals that include not only joining but also shape processing, so please feel free to consult with me. ■ Cross-sectional images Cu + Cu (Copper + Copper) W + Cu (Tungsten + Copper) Mo + Cu (Molybdenum + Copper) Mo + Mo (Molybdenum + Molybdenum)

【Up to 2700℃】Contributing to <efficiency and cost reduction> with a uniquely developed heat treatment furnace.

Metals and ceramics: We will propose the optimal heat treatment tailored to your needs!

Generally, high-temperature heat treatment takes several hours, which can be costly and time-consuming. Gakuseki Electric has been conducting heat treatment of high melting point metals and ceramics, including tungsten. In particular, to quickly and efficiently perform heat treatment for small, low-volume, and diverse products, we have repeatedly conducted various experiments and successfully developed a high-speed high-temperature vacuum furnace capable of reaching approximately 2700°C. With this equipment, ■2500°C for 30 minutes ⇒ The entire process from the start of heating to cooling down is completed in about 2 hours! We have achieved efficiency and cost reduction. Additionally, substances that cannot be completely removed in general furnaces can also be heated and removed. ーーー We also accommodate various high-temperature heat treatments, including multi-atmosphere sintering furnaces and forming gas flushing furnaces. Through these high-temperature heat treatments, it is possible to ultimately prevent the residue and contamination of impurities. With decades of accumulated experience and know-how in heat treatment, please leave the heat treatment of metals to Gakuseki Electric. ーーー

Development case of coating technology with electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, and low work function (functional enhancement).

Active in medical X-rays, non-destructive testing equipment, mass spectrometry devices, and more.

■Background of Development For many years, we have been commercializing various shapes of filaments using tungsten. However, in recent years, with advancements in science and technology, customer needs have diversified, making it increasingly difficult to meet their demands with tungsten alone. ■Overview of Development With the aim of enhancing the functionality of filaments, examples of customer requests included "insulation," "corrosion resistance," and "low work function." In response, we have incorporated the following into our filaments: ● Aluminum oxide (alumina) for [insulation] (Coating alumina onto tungsten coils) ● Yttrium oxide (yttria) to provide [corrosion resistance] and [low work function], successfully enhancing functionality. (Coating yttria (Y203) onto the filaments) ■Details of Development In developing the coating technology, we adopted a certain method. While it is a common approach, it is based on [our unique equipment and manufacturing process]. We optimize factors such as particle size, mixing ratio, and film thickness through experimental investigation, but this is not easy. Ultimately, the number of experiments has reached into the thousands, and we continue to work on quality improvement.

High melting point metals [Heat treatment case] Molybdenum rhenium brazing material development

Active in medical X-rays, non-destructive testing equipment, mass spectrometers, and more.

■Development of Molybdenum-Ruthenium Filler Metal This filler metal is used for joining (brazing) high melting point metals due to its high melting point, but it is not commercially available, so it was necessary to procure the materials independently. Using the developed filler metal, we attempted brazing between tungsten pieces. *The left side of the photo shows porous tungsten.* Photo 1: Observed by a CCD camera. This is a failed example where a large gap occurred at the joint. In reality, it was quite difficult to achieve a good result. Photo 2: Successful example! (The joint is in the center of the photo.) Photo 3: Reflection electron image by SEM. It can be seen that the joint is made without gaps due to the filler metal. Photo 4: Element mapping. The joint area has become clear. Perhaps due to its porous nature, the filler metal seems to have diffused on the left side. ◆Our company possesses a super high-temperature heat treatment furnace capable of up to [2700°C]. We have numerous furnaces that can accommodate various atmospheres and offer solutions utilizing heat treatment furnaces tailored to your needs. - Coating - Brazing - Functional material development - Sintering - Residual stress removal - Grain size control - Oxide removal - Contamination removal - Degassing - De-greasing ...and more.

Ni-Ti Coated Coil (for Medical Use)

Utilizing the properties of Ni-Ti alloy, along with a safe coating that can be used within the body.

Now, let me introduce the "Ni-Ti Coating Coil." It may sound a bit confusing as I write this, but here are the processes involved: (1) Coiling of Ni-Ti (high elasticity, shape memory alloy) (2) Shape memory treatment (500°C) (3) PTFE coating The Ni-Ti alloy is known for its superelasticity, and we plan to develop products that leverage this characteristic. By applying a PTFE coating, the design is safe for insertion into the body. Additionally, PTFE allows for color selection based on purpose (please consult for color variations). As a side note, the current sample is intended for orthodontic purposes, and there was a request for a slightly yellowish white instead of a bright white, as the latter would be too conspicuous (though it would be a perfect match for Coach Shinjo). This also depends on user preferences, but in Western countries, due to high medical costs, there is a perception that "orthodontics = wealth," leading to opinions that some may want it to stand out more.

[Lecturer] Hideo Yamada, Ph.D. Honorary Professor, Waseda University Visiting Professor, Business Breakthrough University Graduate School [Key Lecture Content] Companies face various trade-offs (dilemmas) such as quality vs. cost, inventory levels vs. service levels, and standardization vs. differentiation. Traditionally, companies have responded to trade-offs by (1) finding a balance or (2) prioritizing one over the other. However, this does not lead to fundamental solutions. In this lecture, I will propose a third method that is neither balancing nor prioritizing. Using case studies from over 50 Japanese companies, I will explain it in an easy-to-understand manner. If we can turn long-standing trade-offs into trade-ons (coexistence), business opportunities will arise. [Lecture Topics] 1. What is a trade-off? 2. Trade-offs between customers and companies 3. Trade-offs within companies 4. Trade-offs within customers 5. How to turn trade-offs into trade-ons 6. Steps for exploration 7. Q&A / Business card exchange
