[Seminar] The Current State of Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling for EVs

[Lecturer]
Professor Kazuhiro Fukushiro, Graduate School of Technology Management, Yamaguchi University
[Key Lecture Content]
As the electric vehicle (EV) market grows, a pressing issue is the processing of used lithium-ion batteries utilized in EVs. From the perspective of environmental conservation and securing metal resources, the recycling of used lithium-ion batteries has become an urgent challenge.
This lecture will explain the current state of upstream processes in recycling, such as the collection and dismantling of used batteries, trends in the development and practical application of recycling technologies like hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes, and the realities of domestic and international businesses involved in recycling. Additionally, it will touch upon the recycling of solid-state batteries, which are expected to be practical in the future.
[Lecture Items]
1. Market trends for EVs and lithium-ion batteries for EVs
2. Structure, positive electrode materials, and lifespan of lithium-ion batteries
3. Collection and dismantling of used lithium-ion batteries
4. Recycling technologies (hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and others)
5. Development trends in recycling technologies for solid-state batteries
