[Lecturer] CES 2026 Innovation Award Judge Special Researcher / IT Journalist, Zhao Zhang-eun, KDDI Research Institute [Key Lecture Content] At CES 2026, the world's largest technology exhibition, Hyundai Motor Group's Boston Dynamics showcased the humanoid "Atlas," which was publicly unveiled for the first time as a representative example of physical AI. This humanoid is not merely a laboratory-level imitation of human movement, but a humanoid designed to surpass humans for use in manufacturing environments. LG also presented a home robot that continues to be developed to free people from household chores. It can take ingredients out of the refrigerator and put them in the oven, as well as take laundry out of the washing machine and fold it. The humanoids from South Korea feature a national representative foundation model that understands Korean and have distinctive hands and fingers. South Korean companies such as Samsung, LG, SK, and Hyundai Motor aim to become the global leaders in physical AI by 2030, and they have begun preparations for AI factories where AI robots understand the environment and perform tasks.
