[Seminar] Advancements in AI Society Supported by Next-Generation Nuclear Innovation
[Speaker]
Professor Ken Kurosaki, Director of the Research Institute for Integrated Nuclear Science, Kyoto University
[Key Lecture Content]
In the 7th Basic Energy Plan, which was decided by the Cabinet in February 2025, future electricity demand has been significantly revised from a decrease to an increase, and a clear policy has been established to maximize the use of nuclear power going forward. This shift is backed by the rapid advancement of AI technologies, including generative AI. As society fully embraces AI, a stable power source that is also decarbonized becomes essential, and nuclear power is being repositioned as a key player to meet this demand. To maximize the use of nuclear power, innovations in nuclear technology, exemplified by the development of next-generation reactors, as well as the securing and training of human resources in the nuclear field, are crucial keys. This lecture will outline the background of this policy shift and the next innovations that nuclear power will pave the way for.
