[Key Lecture Content]
The thermal management system (TMS) for EVs is a new technological field that is currently evolving in various directions. This session will provide an update on the latest status as of 2026.
The three subsystems targeted by TMS include the powertrain cooling system (PCS) for motors and inverters that require cooling, the battery thermal management system (BTMS) that requires both cooling and heating, and the air conditioning system (ACS). The integration architecture of this TMS is key, with the main challenges being improvements in power consumption efficiency and cost, as well as responses to environmental issues and the evolution of EVs.
Therefore, using examples from TOYOTA, TESLA, VW, TATA, HYUNDAI, and BYD, we will compare and evaluate the various TMS approaches and explain the current situation. Additionally, we will summarize the trends and challenges of TMS and its components as of 2026. The goal is to provide a general understanding for those outside the field and to stimulate discussion among experts.
